About

Her Jazz is written by Maria Tessa Sciarrino. If you want to know my opinions about music or popular culture, or check out playlists from my radio shows, this is the place to be. I prefer to keep the rest of my life off the internet.
I hold a B.F.A in Photography from the University of the Arts; currently, I’m a graduate student in the Broadcasting, Telecommunications & Mass Media program at Temple University.
I’ve worked as a freelance photographer, writer and designer for a variety of outlets, organizations and publications, including American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP), Arthur, Billboard, The Dictionary of Failed Relationships (Three Rivers Press), Endearing Records, Future of Music Coalition, Idolator.com, Kill Rock Stars Records, Misra Records, Pitchforkmedia.com, PaperThinWalls.com, Philadelphia City Paper, the R.E.M. Fanclub Newsletter, Rockpile, SPIN, Sub Pop Records, Toyota Motor Corporation, University of Pennsylvania, and XLR8R.
I am currently a DJ for WPRB (103.3FM - Princeton, NJ) and previously for WQHS (Philadelphia, PA - University of Pennsylvania).
Previously, I promoted independent concerts in Philadelphia as Plain Parade with Sara Sherr.
And, yes, I have a day job too.

Blog Colophon
I’ve been blogging give or take since 1999; officially with the help of publishing software since 2000. I’m certainly not the first blogger in Philadelphia, but I’ve definitely been around long enough. I’ve used Blogger, TypePad, Textpattern — even handcoding! — but these day’s I’m a WordPress gal. I tend to do any coding in Text Edit or CSSEdit. I’ve hosted all my sites on Dreamhost since the beginning and they’ve been nothing but good to me.
The title of this blog comes from the Huggy Bear song of the same name from the album Taking The Rough With The Smooch. A fantastic band, a fantastic album and, of course, a fantastic song. Probably much to your dismay, this is not a blog about jazz, so live with it.
